Protagonist and Antagonist, Irony, Climax, Theme

What an amazing video!

Setting takes place in Asia somewhere it looked like, in a small London type town.

You could see a little bit of each of the main character’s characterizations.
The def girl, was meek and nice, but was very determined and strong.  Her teacher guy came across as being very understanding and wise.  Then of course the mean girl was competitive, envyous, and cruel.

Conflict was very evident here.  External conflict was being def, all the pushing around she took from the mean girls, and learning to play her violin.

Internal conflict was the frustration of being def and whether to go after her dreams in spite of her problem.
Also the pain of rejection she felt from others.

Symbolism….The caterpillar breaking out of the cucoon was very symbolic.  Of course when she blew her audience away at the competition, it were as if she was a caterpillar who had broken free out of her cucoon, and turned into a beautiful butterfly!

Protagonist was obviously the def violin player, the antagonist was the other girl who was putting her down the whole time.

Irony is pretty obvious here! I mean hello!!! A def girl shredding up the violin! WHO’D HAVE THUNK IT?!

Climax I would say would be when she superisingly enters the competition at the last minute and stuns the other girl! Then starts tearing it up!!! (playing amazingly well) haha

I would say the over all theme here is don’t give up something you want to do, or not go after your dream because of what other people think.  If you believe in yourself, you can do just about anything you set your mind to.

Hamlet glogster :D

I believe this picture to be Hamlet riding on the back of Yorik when he was little.
Hamlet quoted when he picked up Yorik’s skull, “…He borne me on his back a thousand times…”
This picture is ironic to me because Hamlet is a tragedy, but in this picture, we see joy and happiness and laughter. The picture depicts Hamlet’s early life and childhood, which seemed to be much more pleasant than his present life.

For as long as we can remember, people have been fascinated with ghosts.
Many famous stories, Such as Hamlet, concern ghosts.  Looking around I found some funny superstitions or should I say , precautions to take when one is dealing with ghosts.  I’m not sure of the era these came about, but I’m guessing it was european farmers of some sort.

There are MANY, places that are said to be haunted.  The United States itself has a nice collection.  One of the most famous “haunted” places in the United States is the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Lousiana.  People come from all over the U.S to see the Myrtles Plantation.  There are many stories and rumors associated with the old plantation.  While we are not sure which stories and records are completely accurate, it still grabs the attention and imaginations of those who come to visit.   All in all, it is an old, mysterious place!

My family is not really superstitious.  We do however have our share of ghost stories!  I and my family however, do not believe the “ghost” to be the soul of a person, but to be a demon or evil spirit, to be taking the form of that person or being.  I believe that your soul goes to either one of two places when you die, and that it cannot stick around.

I’m not sure why people are so fascinated with “ghosts”.  I supose it is the mystery of it all.  Some people are intrigued by the unknown. Others, it scares.  There are many mysteries in the world that will never be solved.  “Ghosts” is an issue that all of us will never agree on.  Who are they? What are they? And why are they here? I have my opinion. Do you?

I haven’t seen Wizard of Oz in a while! Lol!
But I can see some sybolism there.  There’s Dorothy, the lion, the tin man, the scare-crow, the wicked witch of the west, and the good witch of the east…(i think)  Like you said Dorothy kind of stands for every person in a way, and how we are all on a journey (life).  The lion is on a quest for courage, which he had all along.  The tin man wants a heart which he had all along and the scare-crow wants a brain which he had all along.  It’s taking these 3 human
different elements and creating them into three different charecters.  Then Dorothy, wants to get back home where she belongs and where she has people and family that love her.  Do we not all want a place to belong and to be loved? Yep! :)   Then the two witches of course, represent good and bad.  Everyone has a little bit of both in their lives.  Then we have the great “Oz” which turned out only to be a little old man with a microphone behind a curtain.  I think it’s saying things are not always as they appear, or what you think they are.  I’m sure there are a lot more allegories and sybolism in the movie, but like I said, I haven’t seen it in a long time! Great movie though :)

I believe the media’s effects on self-image are mostly bad!  All the women you see on billboards and magazines are very skinny and have flawless complexions, and perfect make-up.  All the guys you see advertised are usually very tan and muscular.  When kids and teenagers are constantly bombarded with these images on television, magazines, billboards, and everywhere else around them, they are going to think that they are supposed to look like that!  Some kids and teens will go to more extreme measures than others to look the way they think they should.  Some starve themselves, some make themselves throw up, (bolemia) some use steroids and drugs.  The fact of the matter is, we are all different!  People come in all shapes and sizes!  That’s what make people interesting, everyone has their own style, their own look, and their own personallity!  What if all dogs looked the same?  They were all the same size, and the same color.  That would be terrible right?! The same with people.  We have to think for ourselves and not believe everything the media says about being ”beautiful”.  Everyone is beautiful in their own way.  You just have to realize it, and live it.  In the words of Superchick, (band)  “Rock what you got!”

I for one am excited about using a blog! It’s a kool way to say what you’re thinking without actually having to SAY it or write it with a pen or pencil.  You also get to see what other people think of your work without having to read it to them, so you get constuctive criticism/compliments without the akwardness or the stress of being face-to-face.

I think this kind of assignment will go well. Even though there are people in here who say it’s gay now, it beats just writing it down on paper.  I like this idea! :)
